Philips Expands Range Of LED Replacement Lighting Solutions12/04/2010 ![]() As legislation continues to accelerate the phase-out of incandescent lamps in many parts of the world - with Europe banning the sale of 60 watt bulbs from September 2011 - Philips will launch the first ever high quality LED replacement solution. The dimmable 12 watt bulb will deliver an industry benchmark 806 lumens of comfortable, warm white light, fully complying with the new European standard for LED replacement lamp performance coming into effect in September 2010. For both homes and businesses such as hotels, replacing high concentrations of 60 watt lamps with Philips‟ new LED solution could save up to 80% of the energy used by older technologies. Potentially that could save a household or business over Eur 20 per lamp, per year in energy costs. Businesses will be able to minimize maintenance costs further due to its 25,000-hour lifetime. Philips will introduce the lamp globally towards the end of 2010, with initial availability in professional sales channels. LED innovation for halogen replacement To enable the easier replacement of 25-50 watt halogen spotlights with low-voltage LED lamps in environments like restaurants and shops, Philips will introduce an innovative solution that addresses the challenge of compatibility with the wide variety of electrical transformers in use today and required for 12-volt light sources. Philips has applied its unique knowledge of LED technology to develop a patented electronic solution to enable its MASTER LEDspot MR16 LED replacements to be broadly compatible with existing 12-volt transformers. By safely replicating the electrical characteristics of a halogen lamp, the system provides the 4-10 watts of power required by the LED replacement, enabling it to produce constant, warm light and unrivalled energy efficiency of up to 80% compared with conventional halogen spot lamps. Philips will introduce the innovative and state-of-the-art feature in new MASTER LEDspot 4 and 7-watt replacement lamps introduced this spring. Creating the right ambience with LED Philips is to broaden the choice of elegantly designed LED replacement solutions available for ambience creation in both public environments and homes, delivering perfect light quality for a variety of general and decorative applications for only a fraction of the energy used by older, inefficient lamps. For the hospitality industry, Philips will deliver a real „sparkle‟ with its LED replacement solutions for chandeliers and other open decorative lighting installations in function rooms. These solutions include the award-winning Philips Novallure LED lamp, which received a prestigious iF product design award as well as recognition from the influential Hong Kong Designers Association. The solution is available in both clear and frosted versions, and provides hotels and restaurants with a 2 watt LED replacement for „classic‟ rounded 10 watt bulbs, lasting up to 15 years without need of replacement. Philips is also broadening its range of Econic functional LED replacement lamp solutions for home owners. The new range will include dimmable replacements for 35 watt GU10 halogen lamps, 25 watt bulbs and R50 lamps, each creating comfortable warm white ambience while saving as much as 90% of the energy consumed by inefficient lamps. |
